Entering its 6th season, the Valley Symphony Orchestra's Success Thru Strings Program (STS) provides students the opportunity to study the violin and enhance their knowledge of classical music and inspire a new world of opportunities.
Utilizing the Suzuki Method, “Success Thru Strings” begins instruction in the first grade. Administered by VSO staff, the program utilizes artistic certified instructors from the VSO who also hold credentials from the Suzuki Association of the Americas to teach using the Suzuki Method.
Developed in Japan, the Suzuki Method allows young students to begin violin instruction at an early age by focusing on learning to play "by ear" instead of trying to teach young students how to read music and play at the same time. A creative method of education, it fosters not only musical growth but improved creativity, concentration and motor skills. The method requires extensive family involvement in daily practice and lessons, which can only be a help in the overall strengthening of families who participate.
The VSO is committed to allowing all interested children to participate in this program. Parents are responsible for:
- Purchasing their child's violin
- Making sure to drop off all The instructor will advise the parents which size violin and what locations have the greatest promotions available. As part of the program, students participate in two weekly lessons.
