About Your Orchestra - History

HistoryFounded in 1952 at Pan American College as an orchestra of volunteer musicians, the South Texas Symphony Association has grown to comprise the professional Valley Symphony Orchestra; the 100+ voice, volunteer, community based Valley Symphony Chorale; two youth orchestras, the Youth Symphony and Philharmonic; and our Success through Strings program that provides Suzuki-based violin instruction to select elementary students.

Throughout its proud history, the VSO has performed throughout the lower Rio Grande Valley as well as concerts in Monterrey, Saltillo and Ciudad Victoria in Mexico.  The VSO is proud to have as its seventh Music Director Dr. Peter Dabrowski, a world-class conductor who guest conducts internationally every concert season to critical acclaim.

The premiere, professional performing arts organization in the Rio Grande Valley, the South Texas Symphony Association remains firmly rooted in and dedicated to the community we have served for the past 60 years.
